Movies About Summer Camp to Kick Those Back-Home Blues

At first you were nervous to leave home, but now it seems like the fun you had and the friendships you made back at camp are all you can think about. If you need a little pick-me-up to help beat the longing for sleepaway camp, give these movies a watch. For adults who look back on camp memories fondly, this list is for you too!

The Parent Trap (1961 & 1998)

Both versions of this Disney classic are well worth the watch. Twin sisters who were split up by their divorced parents as babies finally meet at camp and then swap places in order to bring their parents back together.

Addams Family Values (1993)

While not exclusively a summer camp movie, Wednesday and Pugsley Addams are sent off to the ultra-wholesome Camp Chippewa where they manage to wreak havoc during the camp's reenactment of the first Thanksgiving.

Camp Nowhere (1994)

This is what happens when a bunch of kids who don't want to go to summer camp end up creating a camp of their own with no parents or counselors to call the shots.

Heavyweights (1995)

Gerry is reluctantly sent off to a weight-loss camp that he ends up enjoying until a sadistic, fitness-crazed owner takes over. Gerry and his new friends must band together to overthrow their new leader and get the camp back to being a fun place to be.

The Rainbow Tribe (2011)

Based on a true story, a man experiencing personal troubles returns to his childhood summer camp as a counselor where the misfit campers end up guiding him through his issues.

Troop Beverly Hills (1989)

Though not a full-on summer camp movie, Troop Beverly Hills has plenty of wilderness exploration and mishaps that any young camper can relate to, especially if they wouldn't classify themselves as "outdoorsy".

Ernest Goes to Camp (1987)

Plucky handyman Ernest P. Worrell hopes to become a counselor at Kamp Kikakee but has to get a group of young troublemakers on the straight and narrow while saving the camp from a greedy mining company.
