"Red Winter" is a survival thriller set in Colorado.

Folks visiting Grand Lake, Colorado, will see more than the scenery and wildlife for the next few weeks. The area is being used as the setting for a new movie starring former Broncos tight end Vernon Davis, who played with the team when they won Super Bowl 50.

The movie is a thriller called Red Winter and stars Davis and actress Ashley A. Williams. The two portray a couple on a snowmobiling vacation in Colorado, hoping to rekindle their romance. In a classic case of being caught in the wrong place at the wrong time, they get swept up in some dangerous circumstances when Williams' character, Carla Andrews, witnesses the murder of their tour guide by two cartel hitmen. The cartel then heads after Carla and Daniel Marx (Davis), who must fight for their survival against both the treacherous natural elements as well as the nefarious assassins hunting them.

The movie is currently scheduled to be released next winter.

Although several of the cast are here from Hollywood, it's very unique in that most of the crew are Colorado-based. There was also a casting call in Denver in February to fill in some of the smaller roles, so some local faces will be on the big screen. One of the producers, Colin Floom, is a Colorado native who has worked on several films, and is known for the 2020 SXSW official selection Fear and Loathing in Aspen.

Grand Lake was picked for several reasons; its amazing backdrops and snowmobile culture.

“Our local producer was adamant about showing us the best of what Colorado had to offer. We scouted several cities before setting our eyes on Grand Lake, Granby, Winter Park, and Denver. We were floored away by the beautiful backdrop and the amazing people here” says producer Errol Sadler.

Davis has played roles in several movies and began his acting career before he stopped playing for the NFL. With parts in Baywatch (2017) and Hell on the Border (2019), as well as a few cameos and smaller roles in a few other movies, he's embracing the actor’s life.

Williams is an actress and director known for movies Black Boots (2019), His, Hers & the Truth (2019) and Frat Brothers (2013).

Grand Lake definitely has the right kind of landscapes and natural elements to provide the perfect setting for this thriller. In a few weeks, production will move to Denver, so we may catch a glimpse of the cast and crew around town.
