Can you believe it's been almost five years since Star last hit theaters? If you've been itching to see another Star Wars film on the big screen, the wait isn't too far off, as The Mandalorian & Grogu movie has officially been announced. The film will go into production sometime in 2024.

It will be directed by Jon Favreau, and Dave Filoni and Kathleen Kennedy will accompany Favreau as producers.

"I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created," said Favreau. "The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting."

"Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have ushered into Star Wars two new and beloved characters, and this new story is a perfect fit for the big screen," added Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm.

And that's not all! In addition to the release of The Mandalorian & Grogu, three other Star Wars films are confirmed to be released.

Perhaps, the most exciting film released after Favreau's The Mandalorian & Grogu is Dave Filoni's film, which is set to take place in the same period as The Mandalorian—this (potentially) means the films will be directly linked. With the second season of Ahsoka confirmed to be in development, Filoni will be using the series to set up his film and end the highly acclaimed multi-series "Mando-Verse" (The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Ahsoka).

The last two confirmed Star Wars films take place in completely different periods. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's film is centered around Rey Skywalker (Daisy Ridley), as she rebuilds the Jedi Order after the events of The Rise of Skywalker; while James Mangold is set to direct Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi. Mangold's film will take place over 20,000 years before any Star Wars films we've seen, focusing on the discovery of the Force.

These upcoming movies show that Lucasfilm still aims to take a quantitative approach to Star Wars filmmaking. This may strike fear into many fans, who wish for these films to be made with more quality. However, these films also show that Lucasfilm aims to give the fans the power to dictate where the franchise goes. In other words, Lucasfilm has given themselves three chances to generate excitement that fans will want to see more of—and c'mon, who doesn't want to see more of Grogu?

These announcements are super exciting, and as a Star Wars fan myself, I know I can't wait to see the franchise's return to the big screen!

But tread carefully, and take these announcements with a grain of salt, as there have been several announced projects that have seemingly been canceled. Nonetheless, if all goes well, these films are the future of Star Wars.

This Is the Way.
