The founding restaurant of the "Buffalo wing" opens a franchise in Frederick.
If you love chicken wings, you’re going to love this new restaurant in Frederick. The city is now home to an Anchor Bar, originally from Buffalo, New York. Credited with inventing the popular spicy hot wing, the Anchor Bar is a culinary legend across America. The company started a franchising program a few years ago and now has stores in Texas, Michigan, California and Ontario, Canada.
If you haven’t heard the story of how the Buffalo wing was invented, here’s the gist. The owner’s son had a group of friends coming into the bar for a late night snack. She took some of the chicken wings she usually reserved for soup and threw them in the deep fryer. The wings were then coated with a spicy sauce and served to the hungry crowd. The wings were a big hit and soon became a staple item on the menu. The secret recipe has been replicated at bars and restaurants around the world. Visitors to the bar can even buy bottles of the sauce to take home.
