RIP to the Loaded Potato Griller. We'll never forget you.

Today marks a sad day for me and my fellow potato-loving friends. Why, you ask? Because today is the day Taco Bell confirmed our greatest fear: The end of the Loaded Potato Griller. The Loaded Potato Griller—for those of you who weren't lucky enough to witness this level of cheesy potato-y goodness—is a simple yet genius combination of cubed potatoes, reduced-fat sour cream, bacon, and nacho cheese sauce wrapped up in one perfectly-grilled flour tortilla.

It's true, Taco Bell betrayed us.

Not only did the Mexican fast food chain nix our favorite item on the menu (RIP Loaded Potato Griller), but the company also announced that it would be doing a complete potato-less menu overhaul.

“[W]hile change is hard, a simplified menu and innovation process will leave room for new fan favorites, continued progress in categories such as plant-based diets, and even opportunities for the return of some classics on a limited time basis,” Taco Bell wrote in its release.

The so-called new and improved menu revamp excludes the following items:

  • Grilled Steak Soft Taco
  • 7-Layer Burrito
  • Quesarito
  • Nachos Supreme
  • Beefy Fritos Burrito
  • Spicy Tostada
  • Triple Layer Nachos
  • Spicy Potato Soft Taco
  • Cheese Fiesta Potatoes
  • Loaded Grillers (Cheesy Potato, Beefy Nacho)
  • Chips & Dip
  • Mini Skillet Bowl (Breakfast Menu)

The only good news? We have until August 13, 2020, to scarf down as many Potato Grillers as our stomachs will allow. Oh yeah, and they're adding a few new menu items to the menu too, including a $5 Grande Nachos Box and a $1 Beef Burrito—but no new menu offering could truly ever replace the Loaded Potato Griller.

"While we don’t want to get your hopes up, there is always a possibility that potatoes would remain a key part of the breakfast daypart once business resumes,” a Taco Bell representative told Eater

What do you think of this news? Are you as sad as we are? Leave your condolences in the comments.
