These D.C.-area restaurants are offering steep government shutdown discounts for federal employees!
The federal government is shut down. That means that non-essential personnel are being told not to show up for work and "essential" personnel are required to work without pay. When the shutdown is over, those workers are almost guaranteed to receive backpay, but the whole thing can be extremely stressful on families. That is why many D.C. restaurants and bars are offering government shutdown discounts! Whether you're looking for a free burger or a practically free drink, these places are doing their part to help you forget that the government is shut down. China Chilcano -- Any government employee not being paid during the shutdown will get a complimentary pan con pollo at the bar from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Capitol Lounge -- The Capitol Lounge is offering $5 specialty cocktails that have been given colorful names like “C’mon Chuck." All you have to do is show a federal government ID. Carmine’s -- Carmine's will keep the happy hour menu running all day long in the bar as long as the shutdown continues. Everyone -- feds and civilians -- will be able to order a special $12 “Hard Times Cocktail." You can also order any happy hour item, and they’ll throw in an extra meatball. Just because. CAVA -- All furloughed federal employees will get a 10 percent discount on single purchases of bowls and pitas during the shutdown. Just bring a valid federal government work ID. The Commodore Public House -- Drink the government shutdown away with $3 Narragansett drafts. Need a little extra? You can add a shot for just $3 more. DCity Smokehouse -- Employees with government-issued IDs get happy hour prices, every hour. dcWisdom -- There will be an extended happy hour with government ID every night during the shutdown. Get $2 off all house infused gin and tonics, $1 off all ciders/beers, wine and winter warmers, and a whopping $6 off all rail drinks. Dino’s Grotto -- Happy hour all day long for government employees until the shutdown is over.

Granville Moore’s -- Federal workers that show their government-issued ID will get a whopping 30 percent off draft beers.

Jaleo -- All of their D.C.-area locations will be offering a complimentary flauta de tortilla de patatas at the bar Monday through Friday between the hours of 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
JINYA Ramen Bar -- The first 100 federal employees through the door starting Monday will get 50 percent off selected items.

PB BBQ -- One of the best of the government shutdown discounts: federal employees receive a free pulled pork sandwich Monday through Friday.
Pow Pow -- 25 percent discount on in-store purchases for federal employees who show off government ID.
Sugar Shack -- This doughnut shop in D.C., Alexandria, and Arlington will give federal employees a free coffee with any purchase as long as the shutdown goes on.
Sweet Fire Donna’s -- Non-working federal employees with a valid ID get a free pork sandwich starting Monday.
The Bird -- Furloughed government employee can enjoy “The Art of the Ordeal," which is an order of Korean wings with any draft beer, for just $8 during happy hour.
The Pug -- Their normal 30 percent discount for police, firefighters, and teachers will be extended to federal employees as well.
The Queen Vic -- Federal workers that show their government-issued ID will get a whopping 30 percent off draft beers.
Three Fox Vineyards -- Anyone affected by the shutdown will get 15 percent off (in addition to any other discounts).
