In the past six years, students at Rock Canyon High School in Lone Tree have raised more than $350,000 to grant the wishes of 51 kids with life-threatening illnesses. This year's Wish Week is set to add to that tally!

Since 2010, Lone Tree's Rock Canyon High School has partnered with Kids for Wish Kids, a division of The Make-A-Wish Foundation that puts the fundraising power in the hands of compassionate students who want to make a difference in the lives of sick kids, through Wish Week. Over the course of a week, students, school staff, and their families participate in a variety of events -- from a fundraiser walk to multiple restaurant nights, from sports tournaments to hair donations -- all of which bring in money for the cause. It takes at least $7,500 to grant one wish, but in the years they've participated, Rock Canyon students have managed to pull together over $350,000, which has been used to grant 51 wishes! "Some students will save their tips and paychecks to donate, parents will offer to match monetary gifts of their students, and teachers create competitions between their classes."   Mckayla AmBery, a Rock Canyon junior helping to organize the event, plans to cut and donate her very long hair at one of Wish Week's Dare to Share Your Hair events.
"I have always wanted to give back to others who don't have what I have," AmBery said. "Donating my hair is something I am very ambitious about, and this is a great opportunity to help others."
