DisneyEach year, Disney costumes tend to be very popular, for both kiddos and grownups alike. With films like Frozen, Moana, Beauty and the Beast, among others, there's never a shortage of princes and princesses around Halloween. Star WarsAs the next installment in the Star Wars saga, The Last Jedi, gets closer and closer, there's bound to be an influx of costumes from a galaxy far, far away. (Not that there's ever been a shortage. Because, come on, it's Star Wars.) Whether you're dressing up as new characters like Jyn Erso, Rey, Finn, or Kylo Ren, or you're inclined to dress as one of the original characters like Darth Vader, Han Solo, or Leia, you'll be sure to bring balance to the Force. Superheroes/VillainsSuperheroes have never been as popular as they are in today's culture. From Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman of DC Comics, to Spider-Man, Deadpool and the Guardians of the Galaxy of Marvel, you'll find the perfect alter ego. So get ready to save the neighborhood, one chocolate bar at a time. Or channel your inner villain like the Joker or Lex Luthor. Game of ThronesAfter a whirlwind season seven, Game of Thrones has only grown in popularity. The show delivered a record-breaking season, so you're bound to see plenty of Jon Snows, Daenerys Targaryens, Arya Starks, and many more this year. Grab your swords and don your armor, because "Winter Is Coming" this Halloween. Stranger ThingsThe hit Netflix series has a second season coming out this October, and the show is still as popular as ever. Dress up as your favorite characters like Eleven, Barb, Hopper, or even Joyce. You'll look as if you stepped directly from the Upside Down. TrollsIt was the movie your kids wouldn't stop talking about, much to your dismay. So, it's pretty safe to say these costumes will be popular for both your kiddos and grownups. Channel your inner troll and become as perky and peppy as Poppy, or as brooding and batty as Branch. They are pretty cute ... Harry PotterLet's be honest, we all were expecting our Hogwarts letter to arrive by owl when we were 11 years old. I know I'm still bitter about it ... So, why not recapture the magic of the books and films by dressing up as your favorite Harry Potter character or by representing your Hogwarts House? (Proud Hufflepuff here!) Who knows? It might help ease the pain of not receiving your letter all those years ago. [caption id="attachment_2944" align="aligncenter" width="1024"] photo courtesy of Hogwarts Is Here[/caption]
BaywatchThe popular TV series about slow-motion, beach-running lifeguards got a reboot in the form of an action movie this year. If you're a college student, not only is this costume easy, but it's sure to be a hit with the ladies! Grab a couple of buddies and a pair of red swim trunks. Bonus points if you run in slow motion.
Classic Movie MonstersDress as Dracula, the Wolfman, Frankenstein's monster and his bride, or other classic movie monsters. Not only are these a staple of Halloween, but they're a great nod to the old movie monsters of days past. The Walking DeadThanks to The Walking Dead, zombies are a huge part of pop culture. It also doesn't hurt that a zombie costume is relatively easy to put together. Just grab some old, ragged clothes and some fake blood, and you're set! But, if you're more inclined to join the living side of the apocalypse, that's okay too. [caption id="attachment_2951" align="aligncenter" width="606"] photo courtesy of Pinterest[/caption] IT I was timid to even include this on the list, but it's going to be a costume we'll see way too much of this year. So, because I am utterly terrified of clowns, I listed it last. And, unfortunately, with the release of Stephen King's IT in theaters this year, there will be plenty of creepy clowns wandering around neighborhoods. Great ... And, just to make clowns extra creepy, a teenager recently transformed his three-year-old brother into Pennywise. That's the stuff of nightmares.
