It's okay to ask for help at the gym, especially if it means avoiding an injury.

So you've decided that you're ready to hit the gym to shed some holiday weight and get into better fitness habits, which is great! Before you put on your gym clothes, though, allow us to provide a few words of caution when you pick up those dumbbells or jump on the elliptical.

What may seem like a good weight combination usually is not.

Remember that what goes up, also comes down.

Use all equipment for their intended purpose.

Remember that you lift the weights, the weights don't lift you.

... We're at a loss for this one.

Don't half-ass your workouts.

And remember, it's a gym, not a playground.

Don't be scared to ask for help when it comes to starting a new weight-loss regimen or workout routine. There are trained professionals on-site for a reason, to make sure you use the equipment correctly to prevent injury and so that, in time, you'll get the physique you want. No great weight loss story ever began in an Emergency Room, so please consult the professionals first!
