If you're looking for Mother's Day ideas (besides treating your mom to flowers and a dinner out), then look no further!

In honor of the mother of all days (this Sunday, May 14), we've compiled some affordable ideas for celebrating moms that may be a little more outside the norm. Recreate some old family photos. If you have siblings willing to get in on the fun, this one can be a huge hit! Find a fun photo from when you were little, then stage a reenactment using similar props, setting, and clothing. Then frame the two photos together, side-by-side. Your mom will love it. Mother's Day Do something active. And what could be more "Coloradan" than running a 5k? The Mother's Day 5k and Brunch at City Park in Denver would be a great way to celebrate your mom's health and the gorgeous spring weather. Or maybe a bike ride or hike would be more your family's style! Good thing Colorado is the perfect place for any of it. Plan a memory menu. If your mom speaks her love through the delicious foods she's prepared over the years, this cute idea might be just the thing to make her feel special in return. Plan all the meals for the day around the dishes that she cooked for you as a child. For instance, was there a certain way she always made your eggs at breakfast? Or did she always make fried chicken for Sunday dinner? Or maybe she's world-famous for her key lime pie. Make the meals your family loved for her to make, and be sure to include a note or card with each, reminding her of why that particular dish is significant to you. Even if your versions aren't as palatable as hers, she will appreciate the fact that you have such great memories associated with her cooking! Visit a local garden center together. Mother's Day just happens to coincide with the gardening season, not to mention the rule that Coloradans should never plant outdoors before Mother's Day (and with the way this year's been going? I'd say wait until July!). Nurseries are coming alive with the vibrance of spring. Whether you're looking to buy some petunias or just browse through all the fairy garden possibilities, here are a few of our favorite local garden centers: Tagawa Gardens in Centennial (check out their hanging basket sale this weekend!), Nick's Garden Center in Aurora, and Holly Acres Nursery in Elizabeth (featuring a fun scavenger's hunt and pancakes just for Mother's Day). Make Mother's Day last all year long. Put together a gift that keeps on giving, whether it's a big jar with 365 pieces of her favorite candy, or maybe a special box with 52 hand-written notes of memories or specific things you love about your mom. Then, whether it's daily or weekly, she can feel the Mother's Day love on a regular basis, all the year through! Laugh together. The family that laughs together...just keeps laughing together! Camp out on the sofa with popcorn and a few of her favorite funny movies, or attend this family-friendly Mother's Day Family Show featuring comedian John Heffron, at Comedy Works in Greenwood Village.
