Building romantic relationships can be difficult for everyone. But with these helpful tips, we'll hopefully make things a bit easier for you and your love life.

It's not easy to tell that lovely person you want to try and be a little more than friends. Even in the online dating age, that first step is probably the most daunting one you will take. Well, we're here to tell you that it's not as scary as you think. So, next time you find yourself back in the dating realm, keep these first date tips in mind.

Now, please note that we are by no means experts, but we've all had our share of heartbreaks and bad experiences, which is why we've put together the following tips. Some of these tips may work for you, some of them may not. Everybody is different, as is every relationship. Just make sure that you're doing what's best for you.

Be Honest About What You're Looking for Right Away

This is probably the most important thing to keep in mind, whether you're meeting people in your local community or if you're using a dating app, like Tinder. Whether you are looking for some casual dating or something more serious, please let people know what you're looking for from the get-go! Don't expect people to read your mind or know right away what you're all about.

If you're looking for something casual, that's okay, but it's not fair to lead someone on who wants to find their one and only. The same goes for people who are looking for something serious. However, also know that if someone is looking for a casual fling, that doesn't give you the right to force them to change and become something they're not.

Don't Get Too Fancy on the First Date

I know, first impressions are important, BUT don't try to break the bank just to dazzle your date. The first date isn't something that makes or breaks a relationship, treat it more as a building block for future opportunities. You don't have to be super cheap or frugal on the first date either, but don't try to take your next Tinder date to Paris on a private jet, okay? Do something fun that allows you both to get to know each other better or try something out of your comfort zones. Sign up for a cooking class! Test your teamwork skills in an escape room! Dance the night away!

It's Okay to Ask for a Second Date

For some reason, people think that it may be rude or presumptuous to ask someone if you can see them again after your first date. It's not like you're trying to put a ring on that finger, right? If you're interested in that person, it's perfectly okay to ask if they're interested in going out again. Don't be afraid to put yourself out there -- serial daters are rarer than people think.

Bad Dates and Rejection

No matter how you got the date, bad dates happen to the best of us. If you end up on a bad date, remember that it's no one's fault. Maybe you connected on Tinder and then, upon meeting them in person, you just didn't click. That's okay! Finding what you're looking for takes time and effort. As the saying goes, you're gonna kiss a lot of frogs before you find your prince (or princess).

When it comes to rejection, we'll be honest, it's gonna hurt -- especially if you ask for a second date and get turned down. You're gonna get rejected from time to time. But, as we said before, a first date is not a marriage proposal. The important thing is to not force a relationship if there's no connection.

We hope we helped, at least a little bit! And remember, do what's best for you. Good luck!
