You May Not Realize the Impact Your Garage Door Can Have

Real estate experts are quick to point out how quickly Denver's housing inventory is disappearing, or in other words, people are buying houses like they're donuts -- by the dozen. Okay, we realize that's not a reality for most, but there's no ignoring the fact that people are buying houses, and that means renovations and repair. It also means that it's a fantastic time to make your home a little bit greener! But before you start shopping for solar panels, don't overlook some of the smaller improvements you can make, especially the garage door.
Insulated garage doors are one of the simplest ways to conserve energy. They're surprisingly affordable, and they have a huge impact in energy savings. The science behind it is simple: when you insulate your garage, your house's HVAC system doesn't have to work as hard to keep the adjacent rooms conditioned. That helps you save energy and wear and tear on your home's HVAC system. Best of all, your car will be warmer or cooler when you hop in it, and it's a must if you love wrenching or working in your garage. garage door So how much difference can an insulated garage door make? Engineers at Clopay Doors decided to put the concept of insulated doors to the test, and what they found was staggering. On a 20-degree day with an uninsulated door, they measured the indoor ambient garage temperature to be 30 degrees. Then they installed the insulated door and measured the indoor ambient garage temperature to be 42 degrees. That's 12 degrees, which is 40 percent warmer than the uninsulated door. Now that's enough to make a difference! However, for many of us, garages aren't considered living space. They often have places for hot or cold air to enter, so be sure to make sure those are taken care of! Then couple that with the insulation door, and you'll be saving the green while being green -- not to mention, you'll be more comfortable running out to the "garage fridge" or hopping in the car! Don't overlook your garage doors, Denver!
