Welcome back, Nokia 3310! The virtually indestructible cell phone is making a comeback!
One of the most iconic and bestselling phones in tech history is making its grand resurrection. Remembered for its indestructible frame, long-lasting battery, and the legendary game: Snake, the Nokia 3310 cell phone is looking to sell itself on nostalgia. The rebooted 3310 was announced Sunday at the Mobile World Conference in Barcelona.
Before getting into the specs of the Nokia 3310, we must note some unfortunate side effects to the phone being launched...
The phone will be functioning on the same old frequencies: 900 MHz and 1800 MHz, the kind used for 2G communications that sent calls and texts before mobile internet was a thing. Most of those frequencies have been turned off in a majority of the world – the United States and Canada included – and they are gradually being switched off in other countries that still use them. Unfortunately, it will not be possible for the phone to do anything when it is taken to those countries, including the United States.
Now, don’t get too bummed out! Nokia hasn’t ruled out America entirely. They are pushing for it to be positioned as the perfect phone for travel since it has a sturdy body and long-lasting battery life. So if you’re interested in travelling across Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and/or Asia, the Nokia 3310 is a smart choice.

The new version will come in the familiar midnight blue and silver-grey, as well as yellow and red. You can’t change the cases like before, unfortunately, as only the back comes off to get at the removable battery and microSD card.

The layout of the ‘num’ keys gives you a throwback feel unlike any other. T9 texting is included! Its overall design is solid and the screen is more updated with a 2.4-inch, 240 x 320 full color display. While it is modern, this is no smartphone. It’s 2.5G, so you are able to surf the web but only with the Opera Mini browser. The camera manages just 2 megapixels.

It is priced at 49 euros, which is converted to about $50. Nokia is confident that between the design and fair price it will entice both retro phone fans and a younger generation, who are looking for an affordable and disposable phone.
As a whole, the updated Nokia 3310 is a cell phone purely for nostalgia’s sake. And WE LOVE IT!
