Becoming increasingly more popular, Friendsgiving is a great trend bringing friends together through turkey!

Holiday season is upon us. For some, the time is a great way to come together with your distant and close family and bond over food, gifts, football, and other holiday/fall related activities. Not all of us are so lucky to have families or family members that we are close with, though. For those struggling with the holiday season, we have a solution: FRIENDSGIVING! What’s better than coming together with the peeps you love with food, booze, and everything else turkey-day! Here are a few ways to have a super successful and stress-free Friendsgiving!!
  1. Host Makes the TurkeyFriendsgivingConsidering transporting a large bird is rather difficult, not to mention prep time and cooking, it’s best for the host to be the Turkey cooker.  This also means host must make the gravy (gotta use up those drippings!!). Other than these things, the host makes NOTHING ELSE (unless they want to). With the combined responsibility of cooking the bird, the host must also clean, organize and prep everything else. It’s best to keep the host stress-free.
  2. Organize the Potluck Hop on an email chain and figure out who is cooking and bringing what. Nothing is worse than everyone making mac-n-cheese and there being no other side!
  1. Everyone brings booze Friendsgiving Variety is the spice of life! Liz loves wine, but Bobby is a beer drinker - the best way to make sure everyone is sauced up right is for everyone to bring the drinks and to share it all, of course!
  1. The responsible ones bring the appetizers We all have those one or two friends who are early to everything. Those are the ones that should bring the pre-dinner snacks - because they’ll be there first! Duh… This way no one will black out from starvation or booze before the main course.
  1. DON’T FORGET THE VEGGIES Make sure to invite that one vegan friend who is guaranteed to bring some veggies to the party. Preferably ones that aren’t smothered in a cream sauce.
  1. Skip the Cranberry sauce... No one uses it… and the canned stuff is just gross. Unless there is someone who has to have it, you can make them responsible for bringing it. Otherwise it just goes to waste.
  1. ...But don't skip the dessertsFriendsgivingHost should also cover at least one of the desserts. Pie is a thanksgiving classic but there are a ton of options and this Friendsgiving essential should not be looked over.
  1. The Slap Rule If any guest shows up with simply ingredients to make their dish - the host may slap that guest. There’s a lot going on in the kitchen, by the time the guests arrive, the oven should only hold the turkey or dishes that need some warming up. There is no down-to-the-wire cooking at Friendsgiving.
  1. The Playlist There should be one super reliable friend to man the music. Ask your most musically-inclined friend should be in charge of the night’s playlist.
  1. Host should set a tableFriendsgiving It’s not Friendsgiving without a lovely table.
And there you have it! A Friendsgiving for the ages! Now gather your buddies together and have yourself a feast! I’d definitely suggest planning your Friendsgiving a few days before or after real Thanksgiving, that way your buddies who do have families to get to can spend their time with all the people they love!
