Sick of your kids zombie-ing out in front of their electronic devices? Get the kids outside and prepped for a zombie apocalypse!

When you think of summer camp for kids, a few mental images come to mind: campfires, lanyard making, outdoor activities ... Well, a camp in Aurora, now past its second year, has introduced an undead twist to the traditional camp experience. Would you send your kid to Zombie Apocalypse Camp? The brainchild of the City of Aurora, the week-long Zombie Apocalypse Camp is kind of like wilderness survival meets "The Walking Dead." The idea of a zombie uprising is meant to reel in kids' interest while still imparting key survival skills all Colorado kiddos should know.

The skills kids learn at the camp are pretty much on par with traditional survival skills. On day one, campers are immediately introduced to skill-building, being asked to build a shelter to keep themselves safe -- all with the impending zombie apocalypse doom on the forefront of their minds. For kids aged 8-12, the camp teaches valuable outdoor skills city kids aren't typically exposed to. Being in Aurora, most of the kids who attend the camp live in and around the city and don't camp as often as kiddos who live closer to the mountains. This camp not only helps them build outdoor skills, but helps them build interest in the outdoors overall.

Kids learn skills like building shelters, tracking wildlife, archery, fire-building, and knot-tying -- along with many other survival skills. While the kids are learning usable skills, there is always the reminder that the zombie apocalypse IS coming!! Toward the end of the camp, the kids are expected to use their skills to survive an attack from zombie volunteers. As zombie lovers, we're severely disappointed we didn't find out about this camp until now. With the summer season coming to a close they are no longer hosting the camp this year -- But keep an eye out next year to get your kiddies signed up! What do you think about teaching kids outdoor skills with a zombie twist? Did your kiddo attend the camp? We'd love to hear what you think in the comments below!
