Don armor, wield a sword, and become a knight at Ironside Medieval Combat in Colorado Springs. Just make sure you leave the loyal steed at home.

Ever wanted to be like King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, or even the knights in Game of Thrones? Well, Ironside Medieval Combat, a martial arts school and combat gym in Colorado Springs, can do just that! The school teaches various weapon styles and offers classes for all skill levels. Ironside Medieval Combat has been open since May of this year, gaining a 50 percent increase in the number of fighters in the state in just over three months. The students train to compete in the Armored Combat League (ACL), a sport where competitors are donned in armor -- which weighs a solid 60 to 80 pounds easily -- and get to clobber their opponents with actual steel blades. So, it sounds fun but pretty dangerous ... Where do I sign up?! On September 16, the school will be hosting its first ACL tournament. It will be a match-up of the ACL's Denver Tempest chapter and the Wild Bunch chapter (from Louisville, Kentucky). Tickets are only $10, but seats are limited, so I suggest you get to the tournament as soon as the doors open at 12:30 p.m. Ironside Medieval Combat
The ACL has more than 400 fighters in the United States and in international leagues in Mexico, Canada, Brazil, Argentina, Japan, and New Zealand, according to Andre Sinou, co-founder of the ACL. "We're now growing exponentially. It's a worldwide phenomenon."
