Here's a list of places to recycle your Christmas tree in Maryland. Let it do double-duty as rich mulch in the spring!

As we head into the new year, you may be wondering what to do about your holiday decorations. Christmas trees can be recycled all over the state and are often processed as part of your normal trash pickup. The folks at pickyourownchristmastree.org have put together this great list of tree recycling options all over the state, and here are some of the highlights.

Regardless of the method you choose, make sure to rid your tree of all ornaments, lights, and ornament hangers. When in doubt, check with your local trash disposal company for their policy on recycling trees.

Baltimore Area

In Baltimore City, curbside tree collection happens all month in January 2019. You can also take your tree to be mulched at the Northwest Citizens' Convenience Center at 2840 Sisson Street. Bonus: you can also bring containers to collect mulch for your own personal use.

Baltimore County curbside tree collection begins January 14, 2019, and goes until the end of the month. You can also drop off your tree at one of three locations: Baltimore County Resource Recovery Facility at 201 Warren Road, Western Acceptance Facility at 3310 Trasway Road, or Eastern Sanitary Landfill Solid Waste Management Facility at 6259 Days Cove Road.

Montgomery County

Christmas tree collection runs in conjunction with the regular yard waste program. If you are in an apartment, check with your building management for their policy on tree recycling.

Ann Arundel County

The county processes Christmas tree recycling just like other regular yard waste collections. After removing all of the decorations, be sure to cut very tall trees in half so they can fit in a standard contractor's truck bed. Put your tree out on your regular trash collection day.

Prince George's County

PG County residents can drop off their trees at the Yard Waste Composting Facility at 6601 Southeast Crain Highway in Upper Marlboro or the Brown Station Road Public Convenience Center at 3501 Brown Station Road in Upper Marlboro. Trees will also be picked up by the county just like regular yard waste.

Frederick County

There are SEVEN dropoff sites in Frederick County, all recycling through January 27, 2019:

  • Reichs Ford Road Yard Waste Recycling at 9031 Reichs Ford Road in Frederick, MD
  • Ballenger Creek Park at 5420 Ballenger Creek Pike in Frederick, MD
  • Kemptown Park at 3456B Kemptown Church Road in Monrovia, MD
  • Middletown Park Recycling Center at 7628 Coblentz Road in Middletown, MD
  • Point of Rocks Ruritan Club at 1637 Ballenger Creek Pike in Point of Rocks, MD
  • Eyler Road Park at 30 Eyler Road in Thurmont, MD
  • Heritage Farm Park at 9224 Devilbiss Bridge Road in Walkersville, MD
