Would you believe it? There is a guinea pig up for adoption this week!
Go rescue one of these animals during the fourth of July weekend and give them their independence from the shelter! With the help of the local shelters, we've compiled a list of the cutest pets available for adoption in Hampton Roads. Check out this week's adorable options!
Hope for Life Rescue, Inc. | Virginia Beach
Hope for Life Rescue, Inc., is an amazing nonprofit shelter located at 610 Jack Rabbit Rd, Ste 3., in Virginia Beach. When you get there, you'll find them in the third building to the left – by the big yellow truck! See their available animals on their Facebook page!
Lambchop, 9
Courtesy of Caitlin Helveston
Lambchop is a small poodle with a goofy and affectionate side – he has a tiny little head, tiny little feet, and a big body, but most of all, he's got a big heart! Seriously, he is a sweetheart. He is relatively new to the shelter, so they are still getting to know him, but they can say that this little guy really needs some love. To my knowledge, he may be unaware that he is in a shelter because he has a great attitude and is a happy go lucky guy who comes up to everyone that enters the shelter. Lambchop followed me around the shelter trying to check out what I was doing and wanting to be with me at all times. Check him out, here!
Twilla, 5
Courtesy of Caitlin Helveston
Very scared, Twilla has a hard time trusting people, so she will require a very patient owner who will allow her the time to become comfortable in her new home. When I entered the feral room, she hissed at me and asked me to stay away. But when she feels comfortable, she definitely has a goofy side. If you are willing to take the time to get to know this gal, please consider taking her in, here!
Virginia Beach SPCA (VBSPCA)
The Virginia Beach SPCA is a private-run shelter, meaning they do not get any government funding and are in the Hampton Roads area at 3040 Holland Rd., in Virginia Beach. Check them out on their website, Facebook, and Instagram!
James, 4
Courtesy of the VBSPCA
James is a true beagle because he is extremely affectionate but also loves to explore the world with his nose glued to the ground. He will have both hyperactive and lazy moments – you just need to figure out when they all are! Consider him here!
Minerva, 8
Courtesy of the VBSPCA
How adorable is she? Miss Minerva is a chatterbox who will talk your head off and keep you entertained for the days to come! Please take the time to scratch her booty but only until she is finished! Take home this special gal, here!
Virginia Beach Animal Care and Adoption Center
The Virginia Beach Animal Care and Adoption Center is another local VB shelter located at 341 S. Birdneck Rd. in Virginia Beach. Check them out on their website, Instagram, and Facebook. Check out their adoption process and fees here!
Floss, 1-5
Courtesy of Virginia Beach Animal Care and Adoption Center
With that head tilt, can Floss be any cuter? This poor girl has been through a lot and because of it, she will require time and patience to allow her to adjust to her new lifestyle. Shelter staff had a hard time getting her on the leash (took two people) but she seemed comfortable once she was attached and out in the world. This lucky girl appears to be potty-trained and seems to like other dogs so if you have a dog currently, please bring them in for a meet-and-greet. The staff feels that with the right person, she will be the best buddy anyone could ask for. Learn more about her, here!
Shadow, 4-5
Courtesy of Virginia Beach Animal Care and Adoption Center
Shadow has quite the unique coat pattern – a mix of grays, browns, blues, and whites. She is not lazy – that's for sure! She loves to roam around and check out the place, get as much attention from her humans as she possibly can, and play with as many toys as she can get her paws on. Find out more here!
Chesapeake Animal Services
Chesapeake Animal Services is a local shelter located at 2100 S. Military Hwy, in Chesapeake. You can check them out on their website, Facebook, and Instagram.
Nathan, 4
Courtesy of the Chesapeake Animal Services
Mr. Nathan appears to be a timid boy who would open up to the right person. His sweet and innocent face says it all: "Please come rescue me and give me love!" He has quite the affectionate side and will come right up to you if you offer pets! Please rescue him, here!
Pumpkin, 13
Courtesy of the Chesapeake Animal Services
Could there be a better name for this cat? He appears to be a very curious guy! Check him out here!
Norfolk SPCA
The Norfolk SPCA is the local shelter to the Norfolk area and can be found at 916 Ballentine Boulevard, in Norfolk – check them out on their website and Facebook!
Skylar, 1
Courtesy of Norfolk SPCA
Can her photo be any cuter? We think not! Skylar is an active girl that will need someone who can play with her and walk her every day. She will do well with older children and other dogs so if you have a friend for her to play with, she would be very happy. She can't wait to show you how smart she is, too. Take her into your home, here!
Chatterbox, 2
Courtesy of Norfolk SPCA
Guinea pigs are very social animals! The hardest thing about them is the cleanup. They love to snuggle and be petted, so consider taking Chatterbox into your heart, here!
Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter | Newport News
The Peninsula SPCA is more than just an adoption shelter; they're a petting zoo, too. Popular to the locals, you can find them at 5843 Jefferson Ave., in Newport News – check them out on Facebook, Instagram, and their website! The shelter performs a behavioral test on each animal while they are at the shelter so they can provide a thorough description.
Lucky, 3
Courtesy of the Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter
Lucky is a very happy-go-lucky dog that would prefer to have a home of his own instead of being in a shelter. He's a very high-energy pup so will require lots of daily exercises and play time (this means fetch)! Meet Lucky here!
Marcus, 1
Courtesy of the Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter
Do you see how adorable he is? This pawesome guy comes with plenty of energy to keep you entertained. Make sure to purchase plenty of wand toys or string for him to play with! Take him home, here!
