Buttercup, 10

Buttercup is a tiny little Shih Tzu Pekingese mix who has a lot of love to give. When I walked into the shelter, she came running over to say hello. Buttercup has surpassed the puppy stage so she is potty-trained and well-mannered and has a lot of extra love to give! Bonus, she would be a great snuggling companion! She is great with other dogs and is just looking for her retirement home! Just a head's up, it's $150 a month for her medicine, so you will need to agree to that commitment! Find her here!

Sweet Pea, 6

stoic tabby cat

Don't be fooled by her facial expression – she is very sweet and social! Sweet Pea is a cinnamon roll tabby who loves her humans but not other cats. She hissed when one of them was near her but calmed down once she noticed that they were not going to bother her. When I approached he,r she rubbed her head up next to my face and begged for attention. She did become jealous when I turned away and paid attention to other cats so she would need to be the only gal in your life! Find her here!

Virginia Beach SPCA (VBSPCA)

The Virginia Beach SPCA is one of the local government-run shelters in the Hampton Roads area and can be found at 3040 Holland Rd., in Virginia Beach. Check them out on their website, Facebook, and Instagram!

Nadia, 2

Her face says, "Please love me and take me home." Nadia is a shy girl who would need a family that could break her out of her shell! Be sure to take her for daily walks or for a good game of fetch in the backyard to wear off some of her energy. Nadia would do best in an active home with older children! Meet her here!

Balder, 5

black and white cat with clear eyes

You no longer have to look for the perfect cat. Balder is sitting at the VBSPCA just waiting for the purrfect family to snuggle with and share a few good headbutts, on his terms. Big bonus: He's a very low-key guy who is cool with cats, but not keen around dogs! Get to know him more here!

Virginia Beach Animal Care and Adoption Center

The Virginia Beach Animal Care and Adoption Center is another local VB shelter located at 341 S. Birdneck Rd. in Virginia Beach. Check them out on their website, Instagram, and Facebook. Check out their adoption process and fees here!

His undeniable smile is what will catch your attention and have you falling in love with this him! Relish is a staff favorite, so you really should consider checking him out! When introducing him to other humans, it needs to be done slowly as he is a little nervous at first, but he's very sweet and loving once he gets to know them! It is recommended that he go to a home with another dog as he is very social and needs to have a playmate. Learn more about his story here!

Bella, 8-12

King Leon recently went on a Weekend Warrior visit with one of the staff members, and they had a blast together. He is the perfect dog to take on a walk as he does not pull, is excellent with commands, and walks at a steady pace next to you! He knows that he is part of the team! King is a bit shy at first, but once he warms up to you, he will want to cuddle all day! Major bonus: he is potty-trained so no extra work is required! Staff states that he does not do well with other dogs, cats, or children! Check out this video! Check him out here!
