As part of the extended holiday hours program, ABC-licensed restaurants, bars, and nightclubs will be allowed to stay open until 4 a.m. this Labor Day.
Beginning Friday, September 1, until Monday, September 4, many D.C. nightclubs and bars will be allowed to stay open later than normal and serve alcohol until 4 a.m. for the holiday weekend. Extended holiday hours were granted by the City’s Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration (ABRA) to more than 185 of the most-frequented bars, taverns, and nightclubs throughout the District, including 9:30 Club, Black Cat, Flash Nightclub, U Street Music Hall, DC9, Hard Rock Café, The Howard Theatre, Madams Organ, and countless others. Hotels can also be granted extended holiday hours; both the Washington Hilton and Hyatt Regency Washington are among the establishments on the approved list, as well as The Rock and Roll Hotel.
In order to be granted extended holiday hours, venues must apply 30 days prior to the holiday. Once granted, the extension is valid during all holidays thereafter. The next approved extended hours holiday will be Columbus Day, when approved bars and clubs will again be allowed to stay open until 4 a.m. In honor of Daylight Savings on Sunday, November 5, approved establishments will be allowed to stay open and serve alcohol until 3 a.m. Other upcoming 4 a.m. last call holidays of 2017 include Veterans Day, the day before Thanksgiving (Wed., Nov. 22), and Christmas Eve.
Previous extended-hour holidays in 2017 included New Year’s Day weekend, George Washington’s birthday, Daylight Savings in the spring, D.C. Emancipation Day, Memorial Day. and Independence Day. The same or similar schedule is expected for 2018.
