Called "bareback hiking," the trend is considered to be empowering and freeing by many.
A rising trend is happening in Colorado, and women of all ages and all walks of life are practicing something called bareback hiking, which is when they go topless at the top of the summits or in nature.
Most of the women participating are not hiking through the slopes halfway nude, though some do, and it is perfectly legal and acceptable for them to do so. In Colorado, it is legal for men and women to be topless in public, with some limitations.

Women who have opened up about the practice of bareback hiking do it to feel empowered, to feel free, to just be themselves, stripped bare of the stresses and burdens of life. It's not an experience meant to be sexual, with most pictures being very tasteful and only showing women’s bare backs.
The practice has two parts; hiking up to the top of a mountain and taking a picture of one’s bareback, then posting it to social media. The idea is not to take a salacious pic on the mountain, rather a tasteful snap of yourself experiencing a moment of truly letting go.

Several women’s hiking groups in the area have been quietly doing this for years, but the trend has seen more attention recently. The Boulder Hiker Chicks group is just one of many who participate in this growing trend!
Our hats go off to these ladies who have chosen to empower themselves in this way.
