"The Only One" — Elle King
Elle King returns with her latest EP, In Isolation. The small demo includes three songs which were recorded during her lockdown in Los Angeles, with one track, "The Let Go," being a video from her own living room.
"The Only One" calls back to King's previous work—a song which sounds as if it could have come out of the music world of the Dixie Chicks and Fleetwood Mac. Composed mostly of piano notes, King sings with such vulnerable simplicity as she discusses regrets of a failed relationship and sadness about being left alone. Her vocals ache with the emotions she sings of.
"The Only One" is a slow, rock ballad that many fans of hers will sure to enjoy. Her slightly husky voice and basic composition will definitely appeal to those fans.
