"Survivin'" - Bastille
It seems summer hasn't quite faded yet. The band's second release of 2020, "Survivin'" is a totally different vibe from well-known indie, alternative band Bastille. With hints of island, jazz, and soul, this track is a unique blend of genres not typically found in Bastille's previous work.
Accompanied by steady beats, "Survivin" has a slow, easy-going vibe and atmosphere, giving you the feel you could be relaxing on a beach in the evening. Frontman Dan Smith's quick-sang vocals are a perfect juxtaposition, bringing an urgency to what he's discussing. The chorus picks up the pace, with a more pop, radio-friendly tone before reverting to the breezy vibe in the verses.
Smith states that "Survivin" is about dealing with anxiety and self-doubt in the modern world and all its advances. He said there's been plenty of times where, when asked how he's doing, he simply says "all right" when that's not true. I think we've all experienced that before.
