The Union Printers facility has been shut down due to several complaints, investigations, and the death of a resident.
After taking a closer look at the violations that occurred on-site at Union Printers Home, it's for the best that this facility has had their license suspended. The list of violations alone would make anyone with a loved one in the care of a nursing home or an assisted living facility cringe in disgust.
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment suspended the facility's license on Tuesday, February 11, which in turn led to over 100 residents left to be relocated. The linchpin to the Union Printer's Home being shutdown was due to the recent death of a resident. Just one look at the list of infractions shows that this facility had no business being anywhere near the sick or infirm. The health citations are over triple the state and U.S. average, and their rankings are unsurprisingly well below par.
Abuse in a nursing home or assisted living facility is a serious matter that affects not just the patient, but their families as well. Those individuals seeking care are at their most vulnerable and need to be protected while their families need peace of mind in knowing their loved ones are being cared for.
The legal experts at the McDivitt Law Firm published a blog on their site that offers guidance on filing a claim against a nursing home if abuse is occurring, and attorney David McDivitt had this to say about the situation involving the Union Printers Home:
“Entrusting your loved one to the care of someone else is already an anxiety-inducing experience. When I see news like this of improper care to those who are most vulnerable, it is incredibly disheartening. We are here to fight for those hurt and demand accountability from nursing home facilities. These types of mistreatments should absolutely never happen.”
Thankfully, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment is in communication with the current residents to move them to different facilities and the Union Printers Home will be run by a management company in the interim.
