After receiving a beer license last month, Trader Joe's is one step closer to opening a location in the Town of Parker.
Residents of the Town of Parker may be able to shop at their very own Trader Joe's location as soon as next year.
The popular grocer has been taking steps to open another Colorado location in the town southeast of Denver. The company applied for and was granted a "fermented malt beverage" license by unanimous vote during a meeting of Parker's Special Licensing Authority last month.
Based in California, Trader Joe's is a chain of neighborhood grocery stores that prefers to offer unique private-labeled items rather than standard branded items. Its products include favorites like "Everything But the Bagel" seasoning, Green Goddess Dip, and organic Watermelon Fruit Spread.
Phil Wofford, regional vice president of Trader Joe's, attended the meeting and told members of the SLA that the soonest the store could open would be about a year from now, according to local news reports. The store would employ about 80 people and is scheduled to be located at 18374 Cottonwood Drive near Costco.
Wofford said the store's beer selection will include non-refrigerated Colorado and local beers that will rotate seasonally but it will not offer its trademark affordable wines because of its proximity to a liquor store.
Founded in 1967, Trader Joe's said it delivers value to customers by buying directly from suppliers whenever possible, endeavoring to negotiate the best possible prices with suppliers to pass on to consumers. The company also said it buys in volume and doesn't charge suppliers to carry their products. If items do not sell well, the company discontinues them to make room for products customers want.
The grocer opened its first store in Colorado seven years ago and now operates seven locations in the state, including Boulder, Colorado Springs, Fort Collins, Greenwood Village, Littleton, and two locations in Denver.
