Brady Campbell’s father, Brandon, passed away a few weeks ago and Brady made him a promise to take care of his mom.

Before Brady Campbell’s father passed away earlier this month, the six-year-old made a promise to his dad to take care of his mom.

And Brady is already fulfilling his promise.

His father, Brandon Campbell, was an avid marathon runner when he was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer. Brandon passed away peacefully surrounded by those he loved on July 7, 2019, after a six-month fight. He was 37 years old.

Before Brandon said his final goodbyes, he helped his son come up with a plan to set up a lemonade stand to Brady could take his mom, Amanda Campbell, out on that date. Brady and his dad worked on the stand for weeks, making signs together and coming up with a plan for setting it all up, but sadly, they did not get to do it together before Brandon passed away.

The day after his dad died, Brady told his mom he was going to sell lemonade, and he did. The six-year-old set up the stand outside and charged "25 cents or best offer" for a cup of the sweet drink.

A local police officer happened to stop by, and hearing Brady’s story, called in for backup. Local first responders came out to support with fire trucks and police cars stopping by to say hello and buy a glass of lemonade.

Brady’s mom says about 75 people stopped by the stand that day, and Brady earned $244 dollars. Once the word got out, a neighbor decided to set up a virtual lemonade stand on GoFundMe, Brady’s Virtual Lemonade Stand, to help Brady and Amanda, and to donate to cancer research. So far, that effort has raised over $33,000, which Amanda says she will pass on to the Brandon Campbell Memorial Fund, which supports the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in her husband’s memory, as well as to support Colontown, an online community of support for colorectal cancer patients, caregivers, and survivors.

Amanda wrote in a recent Facebook post that she feels supported and loved by their community and that she hopes "Brandon’s spirit living on in Brady continues to inspire many people."

Brady has several dates planned with his mom and hopes to be able to take her out once a week.

We wish Brady and his mom all the best and send our deepest condolences to them and their family for the loss of Brandon. We hope to see Brady out there selling lemonade again soon and appreciate his example of resilience and determination in the face of great sadness.
