Have an original idea to pitch? American University's "Yes, And... Laughter Lab" wants to hear it. Applications are being accepted until April 5 for innovative concepts that bridge the gap between comedy and social justice.
The Laughter Lab will give five lucky applicants the opportunity to pitch their projects in New York to a group of influencers able to make their dreams a reality. Grantmakers, investors, NGOs, and other potential partners are interested in hearing fresh new ideas from the comedians who come up with them.
What is "Yes, And... Laughter Lab" (YALL)?
Yes, And... Laughter Lab is a collaborative project at American University's School of Communications in the Center for Media and Social Impact, along with Moore and Associates, in partnership with media giant Comedy Central.
What kind of ideas do they want?
The possibilities are endless. Any sort of comedic performance you can use to deliver a social justice-driven message will be considered. Sketch, stand-up, songs, short films ... you name it, they'll probably want to hear it.
Who can submit ideas?
Anyone over 18 in the continental 48 United States and D.C. with an original comedy project can apply! All you have to do is take a look at the submission form and see if you meet the qualifications. You can be a performer, writer, producer, actor, or director and apply either individually or in a team of two.
The most important factor for your pitch should be a connection with a social justice message. YALL is not looking for any old concept here; they're looking to change the world through laughter!
What do you win if you are selected to pitch your project?
The five winners will be awarded a $2,000 Creative Stipend and a Travel Stipend to attend the pitch event ($1,000 per person traveling more than 250 miles, $250 per person if traveling less than 250 miles).
Your biggest prize, though, will be getting to present your ideas to people who can actually make them happen!
