Monumental Sports is partnering with the gaming experts at William Hill for the new sportsbook.
If all goes as planned, fans will be able to place bets when they attend a game at Capital One Arena. Monumental Sports, the owner of the Washington Capitals, Mystics, and Monumental Sports and Entertainment is partnering with William Hill to put a sportsbook in the arena. The sportsbook will be the first in Washington, D.C., and the first sportsbook at a professional sports venue in the U.S. Development of the new sportsbook comes on the heels of the Supreme Court overturning the ban on sports betting in 2018.
The sportsbook at Capital One Arena will be a multi-level venue complete with food, drinks, and betting on a variety of sporting events. It will be open year-round and will offer access to ticketed and non-ticketed patrons on game days. Fans 21 and over will be able to enter the sportsbook from F Street and place bets seven days a week. Ted Leonsis, chairman and CEO of Monumental Sports and Entertainment, is excited to bring this new dimension to Washington sports fans.
“Through this partnership, we are thrilled to enhance the fan experience with innovative gaming opportunities and transformational dining and culinary options not just on event days, but year-round," Leonsis said. "Our partnership with William Hill complements our vision of making our arena the premier sports and entertainment destination in Washington, D.C.”
Fans will also have the opportunity to place bets from their seats in the arena via a mobile app. An opening date has not been announced, but Monumental and William Hill plan to start construction as soon as licensing is approved by Washington, D.C., regulators.
