Stores will open their doors at 10 a.m. on May 14

As COVID-19 cases plummet and vaccinations rise across the Commonwealth, Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority stores have announced a return to regular hours. On Tuesday, the agency declared Virginia ABC locations will open at 10 a.m. this Friday, a two-hour change from their current opening of 12 p.m.

“With COVID-19 case numbers falling in Virginia and vaccinations increasing, we feel it is now safe to return to our normal operating hours,” said Virginia ABC chief executive officer Travis Hill in a statement. “We truly appreciate our retail team’s dedication and flexibility throughout this pandemic, and we look forward to serving our customers with expanded hours soon.”

The announcement mentions exceptions may apply to locations that open their doors later on Sundays. As for closing times, brick-and-mortar stores previously transitioned to standard hours back in June, according to the statement.

The store also provided an overview of safety guidelines that will continue to be enforced for shoppers and employees alike. Among the guidelines are mask-wearing, social distancing, and physical markers to direct the flow of foot traffic within the store. Stores will also implement increased sanitation and plexiglass barriers at cash registers.

The agency, whose 390+ stores have generated $2.3 billion to the state since 2016, sells alcoholic beverages with an emphasis on product regulation and responsible consumption. Their vast inventory covers wine, spirits, and beer, including regional specialties from local makers. Customers can even browse their website for cocktail recipes and product guides.
