In Buena Vista for a festival, the star was cited after posting pictures of himself with the fish on social media.
Labor Day weekend was beautiful in Colorado and many people got outside to enjoy the hot weather and the great outdoors. Buena Vista hosted some of country music’s biggest names at the Seven Peaks Camping and Music Festival, hosted by Dierks Bentley.
Bentley, when he wasn't performing at the festival, spent some time enjoying fishing in Cottonwood Creek. On Sunday, Bentley shared a picture of himself on social media with a healthy brown trout he caught in Cottonwood Creek.
And on Monday, the star shared a video of himself on Twitter sitting in a police car while being given a citation. Turns out that Bentley was fishing without a license, which is a no-go in Colorado and will garner a citation. Bentley was a good sport about the encounter, climbing into the patrol car so the officer could write him the ticket, and then sharing a video of the whole encounter on social media with his fans.
In the video, which has since been removed, Bentley said, "Hey Luke, those fish we caught in the Cottonwood Creek this week here in Buena Vista, we should probably getting a fishing license next time because I just got pulled over. You're next."
Concerned fans had reported the singer to Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW), inquiring if the singer had acquired the appropriate permits for fishing over the weekend. Calls alone were not enough for a ticket, however, when CPW saw the singer’s post sharing his fishing activity they were able to confirm he had been fishing without a permit and tracked him down.
Luke Bryan has yet to be ticketed, and may not get one, likely due to not posting any pictures online of himself fishing. A lesson can be learned here, we think.
Colorado fans are serious about country music, but they are also serious about the environment and taking care of the state's wildlife, and it looks like the singer learned his lesson and will be sure to get the right license next time.
Anyone who pleads guilty or is found guilty of fishing without a license in Colorado will get a fee of $50 and 10 license suspension points on their hunting/fishing license.
