How Does a school in Atlanta...Not sign any recruits from Atlanta???

While there has been several examples of players leaving Atlanta to find success at division rivals, we found the hit rate for these schools is fairly low. Less than half of the metro signees at each school since 2015 have become impact players. Georgia Southern signed eight in the 2018 class and thus far none of them have made major contributions.

Another talking point among evaluators is a lack of coaches with Georgia ties on the staff. This isn’t from a lack of trying. Elliott has hired two coaches from the Georgia High School ranks, only to see each last less than a full year. Jess Simpson was hired by the Atlanta Falcons months after leaving Buford High School for GSU. He signed one player - Hardrick Willis who is the Panthers all-time leader in sacks. CSE reached into the HS ranks again to pluck GSU grad Jimmy Smith from power house program Cedar Grove and he signed Running Back Marcus Carroll but was scooped up by Arkansas when head coach Sam Pittman was hired last winter.

He believed the person asking was questioning his staff’s effort. Knowing the man personally and the fact that he himself was a local high school coach for many years, I don’t believe that was the case. I think he was simply pointing out what we have tried to do here.
