Passengers headed to the East Coast face delayed flights and cancellations as major airports in Florida are closed.

Hurricane Dorian is wreaking havoc in the Bahamas and is starting to drive towards the United States, and the effects of the storm are already widespread.

As people in the Southeast wait out the storm, and we all wait to see what path it takes, flight delays are starting to be felt across the country. Denver International Airport is feeling the effects of the storm as several flights have been delayed, diverted, and canceled, leaving some travelers stuck in Denver and unable to get home.

Travelers at DIA over the Labor Day weekend found themselves stuck at the airport, with some folks still unable to find a way home, as thousands of flights across the country have been affected. Across the country, close to 1,500 delays and cancellations to flights headed to Florida and destinations nearby have been reported so far.

Overall, things at DIA are running smoothly and passengers who have been affected by the hurricane will, hopefully, be able to make it to their destinations soon.

Airlines are suggesting that travelers call their specific airline or check flight status online before they head out, and as always, arrive at the airport early to go through ticketing and security. You can check flights in and out of Denver here, as well as check the conditions of your destination airport here. Knowing ahead of time that there are possible delays and other changes to flights is good to keep in mind when traveling over the next few days, even those not heading to the East Coast.

Have you or anyone you know been affected by Hurricane Dorian? Do you have any traveling tips to share for those who may be stuck here in Denver during the storm? Give us the scoop in the comments.
