The Washington Regional Alcohol Program is once again providing free rides home through the Sober Ride program.

If you’re going out on New Year’s Eve and plan to have a few cocktails, you need to have a plan to make it home safely. The Washington Regional Alcohol Program (WRAP) is partnering with ride-sharing company Lyft to keep the roads safe this holiday season. Now through January 1, 2020, drivers can use a special code to get $15 off a ride home in the Washington Metro area. The special promo codes will be available on the Sober Ride website.

Last year in the month of December, Sober Ride and WRAP provided rides home to almost 2,000 people. This year the program is once again working to make sure a night of fun doesn’t end up in tragedy.

“More than a third, 38 percent of all U.S. traffic fatalities during the holiday season in 2018 involved drunk drivers according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration,” said Kurt Gregory Erickson, WRAP’s President.

The Sober Ride is open to drivers 21 and over between the hours of 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. through January 1, 2020. The coverage area includes all or parts of the District of Columbia; Montgomery and Prince George’s counties in Maryland and Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William counties in Northern Virginia. To use the program, download the Lyft app on your phone, and enter the promo code found at soberride.com. New codes will be posted nightly at 9 p.m.

Need to get your car home too? A service called Dryver will send two drivers to the party, one for you and one for your car. Service is available in Annapolis, Baltimore, and D.C. and starts at $25 plus mileage and pickup fee.
