The Senior Call Check program helps seniors stay in their homes longer.

Maryland seniors will soon have some help staying safe at home. The State of Maryland has launched a new automated program that will call seniors each day, just to make sure everything is okay. The program is called Maryland Senior Call Check and will be eligible for residents over the age of 65. The free program is the first of its kind in the nation and is designed for seniors who live alone.

With more seniors staying in their homes instead of moving into retirement communities, programs like this are key to keeping seniors safe.

“Our department is committed to providing our seniors who wish to age in place with the necessary resources to stay safe,” said Maryland Secretary of Aging Rona Kramer. “This is an essential service to prevent someone from languishing on the floor after a fall or other calamity. I encourage all Marylanders 65 and older to sign up for this free program.”

Senior Call Check

When a resident signs up for the program, they can pick the time they wish to receive their daily call. If the participant does not answer the phone, the system will place two more calls throughout the day. If both of those calls go unanswered, the system will automatically call an emergency contact like a family member or neighbor. If that call isn’t successful, the system will send law enforcement to check on the participant to see if they need help. Eventually, the program may also be used to inform seniors about weather alerts, medicine recalls, and other important information.

The Senior Call Check is active now and is free to Maryland residents over 65. To learn more about the program and to sign up, visit aging.maryland.gov.
