The new hotel will pay homage to influential women and feature a mural of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
A new hotel coming to the District will celebrate the culture of Washington, D.C., with an emphasis on women. The Donovan Hotel is becoming Hotel Zena, a 191-room hotel with a focus on the empowerment of women. The new boutique hotel will have a rooftop deck with a pool, a cocktail lounge, and unique art pieces throughout. The lobby will feature a wall emblazoned with the image of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
The hotel was designed by Dawson Design Associates and will be the first dedicated to showcase the accomplishments of women. The creators behind Hotel Zena are excited to bring a project like this to the city.
"Washington, D.C., is one of the most culturally diverse metropolitans with a female-majority population, and there is no better place or more relevant time to fill this void in the travel market," said Jon Bortz, president and CEO, Pebblebrook Hotel Trust.
In addition to the Ginsburg mural, the hotel will feature paintings, drawings, and sculptures by prominent female artists. Visitors will marvel at the 50-foot pyrometric serpent winding through the lobby and revel in the edgy, modern design. Hotel Zena will inspire visitors with a series of events by local speakers, artists, and musicians.
The complete remodel includes reappointing the hotel’s 191 guest rooms and transforming the lobby into a cozy place for cocktails and small plates. The 14th-floor rooftop pool will be a respite from the summer heat and a place to take in views of the nation's capital.
A welcome addition to the bustling 14th St. area, Hotel Zena is expected to open this spring.
