Parking meters will be back in service on Monday, July 13.
If you have been enjoying the free parking in the city for the last few months, your fun is about to end. Mayor Bernard C. “Jack” Young and the Parking Authority of Baltimore City announced last week that parking meter enforcement will resume on Monday, July 13, 2020. Meter enforcement was suspended because of the COVID pandemic and is just one of many services being restored as the city moves into phase two of the recovery plan.
“While we continue to work to combat the spread of COVID-19, I am pleased that Baltimore City has successfully shifted into its second phase of reopening businesses and services,” Young said. “As people continue to move around and be outside, it is important as we continue through phase two that we return many of our services to help our economy recover.”
Baltimore City was one of the last municipalities to transition into Phase Two, and now, with the uptick in shopping and dining, the city has created a need for monitored parking. The city has at least 148 pay-by-plate parking meters that don’t require you to return and fill the meter if you are running late. Visitors are reminded to wear a mask and use hand sanitizer before and after using the parking meters.

If you’re heading down to the Fells Point area, plan ahead because parking is limited. Several of the streets will be temporarily closed Thursday through Sunday in order to accommodate more outdoor dining space. Access will also be restricted to residential streets in Fells Point, and parking is only open to residential permit holders. The best option is one of the parking garages on Caroline St. or on Eden St.
