A social media feud is taking place between the Jeffco Public Libraries and Open Space, and it's very reminiscent of "Parks and Recreation". We love it!
“The library is the worst group of people ever assembled in history. They're mean, conniving, rude, and extremely well-read, which makes them dangerous.” –Leslie Knope, Parks and Recreation.
Not everything is serious business in Jeffco! Reminiscent of the long-standing rivalry between the fictional Pawnee, Indiana, feud featured on the hit show Parks and Rec, this story made us laugh out loud. Over in Jefferson County, there’s a friendly feud that’s been brewing between Jefferson County Public Libraries and Jeffco Open Space. With moves that could come straight from Leslie Knope herself, the two departments have been trading jabs over social media for a while, and we love it!
The two departments have subtly (and not-so-subtly) been having a little bit of fun with each other with snappy posts and responses on Twitter. For example, Jeffco Parks and Rec reminded folks in June that reading about rainbows is nothing like seeing the real thing:
Happy first day of Summer!

Friendly reminder: All libraries are air-conditioned and @JeffcoOpenSpace parks are not. pic.twitter.com/D1twkTSNuH
Friendly reminder: reading about sights like this does not compare. Get outside and see it for yourself! pic.twitter.com/xjqEhyWbWp

This handwashing PDA from Jefferson County Public Library gets creative in the musical accompaniment, taking a simple how-to message and making it a song we just can’t stop smiling at:
This song absolutely SLAPS!

Jeffco Open Space pointed out that reading about frogs and toads is nothing compared to actually seeing frogs and toads, as a way to get volunteers out in the parks. The library responded by pointing out that volunteering at the library has a lesser chance of warts:
Or volunteer at the library and don't risk getting warts.

The library also poked a little fun at the Open Space department this week by posting a picture measuring two feet of sunshine outside of the library. Jeffco Open Space gets in quite a few zingers of their own—all in good fun, of course.
Just over TWO FEET of sun today at the Lakewood Library. What're you reading outside? 🌞📚❤️ pic.twitter.com/75jogUApoh

We don’t see any personal vendettas here, especially nothing on the level of Tammy and Ron, or Leslie and the entire library staff, as was the case in Parks and Rec.

We don't know who needs to hear this, but we're not just "book jockeys."

With all the crazy going on in the world right now, a little bit of good old-fashioned fun is exactly what we need to hear about. The great thing about this real-life feud between Jefferson County Public Library Library and Jeffco Open Space is that it's getting people involved in both the library and the outdoor recreation options, so everyone wins!
