The overnight storm will bring slippery roads and two to four inches of snow in most areas.

Just days after the region cleans up from the first winter storm, another one is on the way. The National Weather Service in Baltimore is forecasting a storm is expected to bring two to four inches of snow to most of Maryland, Virginia, and D.C.

Snow is expected to begin in the early hours of Friday, January 5, just in time to wreck the morning commute. The mess from Sunday’s storm still hasn’t been cleaned up yet in some areas. The I-95 in Virginia finally reopened on Tuesday night after motorists were trapped for more than 24 hours.

A winter weather advisory has been issued for the DMV for 6 p.m. Thursday through 5 a.m. on Friday morning. Residents in Garrett County, Maryland, could see snow as early as 3 p.m. on Thursday. The storm could bring wind gusts up to 35 mph and snowfall and up to six inches of snow to central Maryland and northern Virginia.

The timing of the storm is certain to impact the morning commute, causing school delays and closures.

Areas north of D.C. are predicted to get between two and four inches of snow.

Snowfall totals will be impacted by temperatures that are forecasted to dip into the high '20s after midnight on Thursday. Computer models vary and there is a small possibility the region will only get a dusting to an inch of snow.

The stretch of I-95 in Virginia that was closed on Monday is only expected to get between two to three inches.

Regardless, officials warn that anyone venturing out in winter weather needs to be prepared. You should always have a kit in your car that contains a blanket, food, water, medicine, and a cell phone charger. In the winter, add in a snow scraper, shovel, and kitty litter in case your car gets stuck.
