The supermarket chain is recalling bags of frozen broccoli after lab tests confirmed Listeria contamination.

Giant Food Stores has recalled all of its store-brand frozen broccoli after learning that the food may have been contaminated with the Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. The recall applies to 16-ounce bags of the "Private Brand Frozen Broccoli Cuts" that have a sell-by date of March 15, 2020, and a UPC code of 68826700926. The voluntary recall came after a supplier notified Giant that there may be contamination. The Listeria monocytogenes bacteria can cause a particularly dangerous infection that often proves fatal in children and the elderly. Pregnant women are also at a heightened risk for Listeria-caused miscarriages and even stillbirths. Anyone who has purchased one of the recalled bags of broccoli from a Virginia Giant supermarket is encouraged to return the bag to the store for a full refund. There have not been any reported illnesses, but at least one bag of the frozen broccoli has been tested and found to contain the Listeria bacteria. You should not, under any circumstances, consume one of these bags of frozen broccoli. If you consumed a bag of Private Brand Frozen Broccoli Cuts and have experienced symptoms such as a high fever, headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, or diarrhea, do not hesitate to seek medical attention. If you have any questions or comments about Giant's voluntary recall, you can reach out to the company directly at 1-888-814-4268.
