The Surfing Rooster, a new Ocean City restaurant, will open its doors this month! Proud owners and brothers-in-law, Mike Marshall and Jeff Burton, call their cuisine "Southern with a twang."

Burton, an executive chef with more than 20 years of experience, and Marshall, who landed on the restaurant scene six years ago, said they'd set their sights on a new Ocean City restaurant a long time ago. When the last owners at a locale in West Ocean City closed their doors on a Peruvian chicken restaurant, Burton and Marshall swept in with their "barn to beach" concept: the Surfing Rooster. Most of the ingredients at this brand new Ocean City restaurant, from the seafood to the tomatoes, will be locally sourced. Menu items found at the Surfing Rooster include house-made pork rinds with pimento beer cheese and a chili ranch, local Blue-Channel-caught catfish fingers, smoke-fried bologna sandwich with Fritos® chips, a fresh heirloom tomato sandwich with sweet corn mayo and basil, pepper fried shrimp, shrimp and crab chowder, and more. Burton, who spent his early years working at his family’s bar in Baltimore, said he wanted to make the Surfing Rooster the neighborhood hangout.
“We’re locals, and a lot of people know us. We are true to who we are. We’ll be here 99 percent of the time, and we want to come out and talk to everybody. I’m going to be the chef in the kitchen, and Mike is going to do breakfast in the morning.”
The Surfing Rooster is located at 12507 Sunset Ave, West Ocean City, and will be open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and will operate year-round. Breakfast will be offered on weekdays starting after Memorial Day weekend. For more information, or for hours of operation, call (443) 664-8166 or visit the Surfing Rooster Facebook page.
