A Senate trial will begin immediately, so long as there's agreement among Senate leaders, according to reports.
On Wednesday, January 13, the House of Representatives impeached President Donald Trump, for a second time—this marks as the first time a U.S. president has been impeached twice. The House cited the reason for the impeachment as "incitement of insurrection," following events at the U.S. Capitol on January 6.
The House voted 232-197 to impeach President Trump.
In a statement, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said, “A Senate trial can begin immediately, with agreement from the current Senate majority leader to reconvene the Senate for an emergency session, or it will begin after January 19."
