Tired of losing/gaining an hour of sleep each year? So is the U.S. Senate.

On Tuesday, the United States Senate passed the Sunshine Protection Act by unanimous vote. This act would make daylight saving time permanent.

Put forth by Senators Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Ed Markey (D-MA), the Sunshine Protection Act had 16 other co-sponsors.

"Switching in and out of daylight saving time is outdated, and it's only a source of annoyance and confusion. Frankly, it's just dumb, and there's just no other way to say it," said Senator Rubio.

Now, before you go getting all excited (or disappointed?), this bill still needs to be approved by the U.S House of Representatives before going to President Biden for his signature.

Over the last four years, 18 states have passed legislation supporting year-round daylight saving time, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL). And in 2022 so far, the NCSL says that at least 28 states are considering new or 2021 carryover bills addressing daylight saving time.

What are your thoughts? Will daylight saving time become permanent? Tell us why or not why in the comments below.
