Is that, umm, a Megalodon?
A TikTok video of an enormous shark swimming on the coast of Massachusetts has gone viral and has almost 40 million views. In the video, the shark is seen gliding close to a ship where the viewers are unmistakably in awe.
Alex Albrecht, a 20-year-old marine biodiversity student and musician, captured the giant creature from the mast of SSV Corwith Cramer. The spotting happened 100 miles off the coast of Woods Hole Section of Falmouth.

Viewers were amazed seeing the shark's size, and soon after, the post was flooded with comments: "Is that Megalodon?", "Jaws theme plays."
However, this marine animal was certainly not a Megalodon! Megalodons were the largest sharks to ever live on Earth and are extinct. According to scientists, the adult Megalodon could grow between 30-80 feet and weighed 50-75 tons.
This shark was a huge Basking Shark known to be harmless to humans. They are gentle giants and mostly feed on tiny planktons. The second-largest in their species, a Basking shark can grow up to 45 feet in length and weigh up to 10,000 pounds.
"I'm so grateful to be able to share such a wonderful creature with so many people," said Albrecht. "I hope it makes people want to protect and conserve biodiversity in our oceans."
