Take a look at the 2021 Volkswagen Golf 8 R ripping around the track in all its glory.

With no official press release, for the last few months we've been forced to piece together spy photos and hearsay from the far corners of the internet about the 2021 Volkswagen Golf 8 R. That is until the folks over at Auto Addiction gave us a little serotonin release by featuring the VW Golf 8 R unwrapped, hugging corners, and going through the gears at the Nurburgring.

The 2021 Golf 8 R features a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four which will put out 330 horsepower compared to its variant, the GTI, sitting around 250 horsepower. Free of all factory covers and camouflage, we can see the nice body lines of the more aggressive front bumper, sleek side skirts, smooth rear spoiler, and subtle rear splitter accentuated nicely by the quad exhaust tips.

We don't get the full exhaust note due to the squealing tires and large audience of birds that gathered for a day at the track. But do keep in mind that this is a prototype, and other slight modifications might still be in the works.

When the final product hits stores later this year, or early 2021, we'd expect the engineers at VW to have that exhaust note tuned just right allowing for that rush we've all been craving. That should also allow enough time for our bank accounts to recover, and we wouldn't be surprised if we see a starting price somewhere in the mid to low 40s.
