An earthquake registering at 7.4 magnitude hit southern Mexico on Tuesday morning.

An earthquake hit along the southern coastline of Mexico, in Oaxaca state, on Tuesday morning. Determined to be a magnitude 7.4, the earthquake struck at 10:29 a.m. local time (CST). 

The epicenter was 12 kilometers southwest of Santa María Zapotitlán, right along the coast.

According to, the region within 1,000 kilometers of the epicenter is now under a "tsunami threat." This would include Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador.
