The largest hotel in Colorado will open in December.

While the Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Center is still under construction, one million rooms have already been booked. But the general manager said that shouldn't worry potential guests -- the rooms were booked over several years, and there is still availability at the hotel. Rooms were reserved up to a decade in advance since many groups plan to host conventions at the property.

Once complete, the hotel will have 1,501 rooms and almost 500,000 square feet of meeting space, making it the largest hotel in Colorado. It will be located in Aurora off highway E-470.

“The goal of this hotel is to create a lodge inspired mountain retreat at the foothills,” Michael Kofsky, Director of Sales & Marketing for the resort, told CBS. Some of the rooms will have mountain views. The hotel will feature an indoor/outdoor pool with a 40-foot water slide, a lake, a waterfall, and a heated lazy river. There will also be an on-site sports bar with a multi-level display, seven dining options, and a 24-hour gym.

With close proximity to the airport, the hotel will become a convenient space for large groups. Rick Medewaff, general manager, said he's looking forward to the boost in tourism. More than 80 percent of the of the already scheduled conventions will be held in Colorado for the first time. "So we’re excited about that, that we’re bringing in new people to experience not only Aurora but the Denver Metro area and Colorado in general," said Medeweff.

The resort is scheduled to open on December 18, with the first groups arriving in February of 2019. Approximately 1,800 staff members will be needed to run the hotel, There will be a job fair on November 2 and 3, and there is a job center located at 6850 N. Argonne Street, Unit 100.
