If you get a lot of food deliveries to your home, you’re going to love this new Prime perk.

Amazon has just announced a new benefit for the more than 157 million users in the U.S. A new partnership with food delivery service Grubhub will allow Prime members to order food from their favorite restaurants for free for one year.

The one-year trial membership will cover the $9.99 monthly fee as well as an unlimited number of free delivery charges. Amazon Prime members already get free deliveries on purchases, free Prime Video access, and more. The announcement comes before Amazon holds its annual Prime Day sale (July 12-13).

The pandemic accelerated the use of home food delivery and demand has remained steady. According to the National Restaurant Association, 53% of adults say takeout and delivery food is essential to the way they live. A typical delivery service costs around $10 a month and may have an additional delivery fee depending on volume. Add in tax and tip and the cost to deliver can be more than the cost of the actual meal. For Prime members who get a lot of deliveries, this is an amazing perk.

"Being able to give Prime members one year of Grubhub+ and no delivery fees from restaurants is our way of saying 'thank you'," said Jamil Ghani, Vice President, Amazon Prime. "The value of a Prime membership continues to grow with this offer, and this year is shaping up to be a great time to enjoy the convenience, savings, fun — and deliciousness — that membership provides.”

In February Amazon raised the price of a Prime membership from $119 to $139, or from $12.99 to $14.99 monthly. Shoppers that don’t have Prime can still get free shipping by meeting purchase minimums. If you already have Prime and want to start your free Grubhub membership, go to amazon.com/grubhub.
