Hugo, Colorado reports tainted water due to evidence of THC in the supply

A local Hugo, Colo. company discovered the weedy water after receiving a positive result for tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC. THC is the active component in marijuana, its basically the compound that gives you that euphoric "high" feeling. In the small town of Hugo with only 700 people, no serious negative symptoms have been reported thus far.

Officials have urged the Hugo residents to not consume any local water due to several wells testing positive for THC. Although the tests taken did not report how much THC was present in the water, its only reported that the component was present in six out of 10 wells tested.

The Lincoln County Sheriffs Office have been live-tweeting the discoveries and doling out warnings throughout the week. According to officials, the water is perfectly fine for bathing, showering, teeth brushing, dishes, and basically everything except ingesting.

The FBI and Colorado Bureau of Investigation have been called in to help figure out exactly what’s going on, how the water got tainted, and the levels of TCH that are actually present in the water. The two branches will continue to test the water and report any upcoming news regarding the water and where this contamination came from.

It should be mentioned, although marijuana is legalized in the state of Colorado, Hugo prohibits marijuana cultivation, manufacturing, testing and has no dispensaries. The ramifications toward who or whatever caused this contamination are still undecided, but I’m sure its not going to be pretty.

Local police will begin distributing bottled water to citizens starting Friday July, 22.
