Here's what Denverites were most curious about in 2018.

Google search trends would have us believe that Denverites are sports-obsessed and very curious to know more about dead celebrities. Google has been documenting search trends worldwide for 18 years, and the annual list for Denver shows some interesting trends.

At the top of the list was "World Cup," which took place in Russia this year in June and July. The event was popular across the globe, and Denver is one of 23 cities to potentially host the 2026 World Cup games. This was also the top search term in the United States.

Several celebrities also made the top 10, including Mac Miller, Anthony Bourdain, and Kate Spade, who all died in 2018. Rapper Mac Miller died of a drug overdose at age 26, celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain committed suicide at age 61, and fashion designer Kate Spade also committed suicide at age 55. Demi Lovato also made the list. The singer/songwriter/actress went to rehab in July after an overdose and has resurfaced in good health.

Unique to the Denver list was the term "Colorado Avalanche," ranking fourth. That's likely because of the 10-game winning streak that led the Avalanche to make the playoffs last spring.

Denverites also googled "Mega Millions" frequently, since the largest jackpot in history ($1.5 billion) still hasn't been claimed. The winning ticket was sold in October, and the winner has 180 days to come forward.

But it wasn't all sports, cash, and celebrities that intrigued Denverites this year. Number 9 on the list was Hurricane Florence, which devastated the Carolinas in September. There were 53 casualties and $17.9 billion in damage. And number 10 on the list was "election results." In the 2018 midterm election, Colorado had the second highest turnout rate in the country. More than $2.5 million people showed up to vote on Election Day.

2. Mac Miller
3. Anthony Bourdain
