DIA will improve by $1.8 billion.
On Wednesday, July 26, a four-to-one vote by the city council urged the $1.8 billion renovation contract to move forward. What could they possibly change, you wonder? Well, DIA says the top area on their list would be security. Probably everyone's favorite part about our airport, am I right?
It would be awesome if they could put the money towards a magical fix to the annoyingly long security line, but DIA has other ideas. Officials think that the security area that every passenger comes through is too open and vulnerable to security threats. While this is on the top of the list, DIA has other improvement plans in mind as well.

We know we have to do something to stay competitive in the world of airports," says Stacey Stegman, a DIA spokeswoman.DIA is already one of the largest airports in the United States, but adding these features will only improve the overall experience for each passenger. But how long can we expect this renovation to take?
You would see us build the ticket counter first so that we can free up space to build the new TSA," Stegman says. "Then we would move TSA up to the next level. It wouldn’t be four years of all kinds of construction. We would do it in phases and open it in phases as it's complete.”This four-year-long project doesn't come for free, but DIA is saying that no tax payer dollars will be used for the renovation, which will be funded through private developers and the airport's own funds.
